Fare thee well D&G!
D&G is closing down. The line that appeared to fly off the shelves and into the closests owned by the rich and wealthy is kaput; finito; no longer.
Dolce & Gabbana have made their decision to kill off their 2nd line(D&G), supposedly the cash cow of any luxury brand.
Reason being, they are taking a step back in order to focus on the more luxurious and far more costly main collection.
Their dream: "To build a house like Chanel - i'm talking old Chanel - where you're dressing real women and speaking to the cusomters directly, that was always the idea, even 27 years ago when we first started. Maybe now, little by little, we're getting there."
Dolce and Gabbana clearly don't like sticking to rules, so it made sense that they didn't follow the crowd & show in Paris with the rest of the Fashion houses. Sicily, where Dolce was raised & the pair met, recently held their couture show. 'If you do something really special, the world will come to see it' & they definitely did.
They commandeered 3x hotels for their guests over a long weeked. There was opera, fireworks, parties & of course a couture show.
35 seamstresses in white coats and black collars were there too; bowed over hundreds of metres of hand-woven lace and velvet embroidered with real Venetian gold thread.
For a company that started 26 years ago, they are doing exceptionally well - generating 1.3 billion in the year 2011. The company is still owned 100% by Dolce and Gabbana and they have deserved themselves the right to do what they like. And this is what they like.
Congratulations!
